This week's penultimate episode of "The Flash" season 2 ended with a heart-wrenching scene when Zoom killed Barry's father Henry, just when he was ready to reconnect with his son. Flash was also able to apprehend all the Earth-2 metahumans by using a sonic amplifier with a frequency of Earth-2 denizens, but Zoom escaped.

In the final episode titled "The Race of His Life," the Scarlet Speedster continues the hunt for Zoom. Will Zoom make it to season 3? It's too soon to tell, but the Flash will surely give him a huge fight. The official synopsis reads:

After Zoom (guest star Teddy Sears) reveals his true plan, Barry (Grant Gustin) vows to do whatever it takes to stop him.

Writer/director Kevin Smith, who also happens to be an outspoken fan of the series, hinted that the finale will be something beyond what viewers can expect. "I saw that breakdown and was like [gasp]," said Smith. "And then for what they decided to do for the absolute finale... it was kind of mad s--- as well. It's crazy. Like this is a show that ends BIG. Last season they ended on that huge high note where [Jay Garrick's] hat comes through at the end... It felt like that season finale was huge. It feels like the last three episodes of this [season], and I'm not throwing mine in for ego or anything like that, but the storyline that happens in that episode, the Barry stuff, is really crucial to the last two episodes so it feels like a triumvirate of episodes. Ends insanely, insanely strong."

"The Race of His Life" airs on May 24, Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. The network has yet to announce an official premiere date for "The Flash" season 3, but it will likely air sometime around October of this year.
