'The Fall' season 3 spoilers: Chilling new trailer for final season released; Stella Gibson still haunted by serial killer Paul Spector

After two years of hiatus, BBC Two's psychological thriller "The Fall" is all set to premiere its third and final season. A new chilling trailer has been released, and it features Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) contemplating on the intense encounter she had with serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan).

In the 41-second trailer, the determined and obsessive detective superintendent goes for a swim as she continues to be haunted by the thought of Paul. She has been chasing him for a long time, and the previous season saw him being shot by a police officer. Though the notorious murderer cannot be seen in the clip, his voice can be heard in the background.

"You're under arrest, you're going to prison," Gibson's voice in the background says â€” recalling the final conversation she had with Paul. Still in the background, he creepily responds: "I live at a level of intensity unknown to you and others of your type. You will never know the almost God-like power that I feel when that last bit of breath leaves a body. That feeling of complete possession."

The second season left off with a cliffhanger, leaving the fans clueless if Paul survived or not. However, previously released on-set photos from BBC hinted that Dornan's villainous character may still be alive. As noted in the official synopsis for season 3, convicting Paul for his crimes will be much more difficult now for everyone involved. Following the emotionally-charged shooting, Stella's intense journey to catch Paul and bring justice for his victims' families will begin with a bloody encounter to keep the perpetrator alive.

Aside from Anderson and Dornan, supporting cast members include Colin Morgan, John Lynch, Valene Kane, Emmett J. Scanlan, Stuart Graham, Bronagh Waugh and Aisling Franciosi.

BBC Two has yet to announce an official premiere date for "The Fall" season 3, but the series is expected to return sometime later this year.
