Bethesda Softworks will not be releasing the sixth installment to "The Elder Scrolls" franchise anytime soon. Although the game is not slated for release this year, fans are already wondering about what the forthcoming installment will bring to the franchise.

There have been rumors suggesting that the upcoming video game will be based on FromSoftware's action role-playing game "Dark Souls." GamenGuide speculated that the challenging quests featured in "Dark Souls" impressed Bethesda Softworks so the company is now planning to add similar characteristics to the sixth "The Elder Scrolls."

This rumor, however, might be a bit far-fetched. Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines once talked about the company's unique approach when it comes to developing video games.

"If you look at our games, we do things that no other game does. There are very, very, very few that allow this huge world and exploration and also a really high level interactivity," Hines told GameStar. "What new feature can we add, what new things can we offer without sacrificing the things that make a game like ours cool," Hines added.

Others suggested that a virtual reality component could be added to the game but the company is rumored to be uninterested in such a feature for now. Sources said the company might not venture into virtual reality just yet because it remains to be a widely sought-after game feature.

Sources said Bethesda Softworks is working on two titles at the moment, and they intend to release those titles before they begin working on the sixth installment of "The Elder Scrolls" franchise. The two upcoming games are reportedly bigger than Bethesda's previous titles. Hence, the company will focus on those two before proceeding to "The Elder Scrolls." The sixth installment is expected to launch in 2019.
