'The Crown' season 2 news: 'Dexter' alum lands recurring role as JFK; series creator discusses future recasting of main characters

"The Crown" will be featuring a prominent U.S. President when the critically-acclaimed drama returns for season 2.
"Dexter" alum Michael C. Hall has been tapped to play John F. Kennedy in the upcoming season of "The Crown." Acting opposite Hall is Jodi Balfour, who will portray the late president's wife, Jackie Kennedy. The pair joins season 2 newcomer Matthew Goode, who landed the role of Princess Margaret's husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones.
Balfour's Jackie is described as a charming and shy First Lady, who is the exact opposite of her husband. Hall's version of JFK loves getting attention from the public — a natural when it comes to being a leader. He is an excellent public speaker, and he doesn't like the idea of being upstaged by anyone. Behind closed doors, his jealousy shows through in the form of manipulation.
Production for season 2 is ongoing, and it picks up with the soldiers in Queen Elizabeth's Armed Forces fighting in Egypt. A devastating scandal eventually leads to the downfall of Her Majesty's third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan. As the age of deference comes to an end to welcome the 1960s era, the Kennedys will be introduced.
Since the show is based on a true story, time obviously moves on and people grow older. "The Crown" currently stars Matt Smith and Claire Foy as the younger selves of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, but with the story expected to continue until season 6, the cast will certainly have to appear aged as well.
Although CGI and make-up can be used to make the actors look older, series creator Peter Morgan seem more interested in recasting the characters instead.
"I feel that when we reach 1963-64 we've gone as far as we can go with Claire Foy without having to do silly things in terms of makeup to make her look older," he said. "We'd probably need to think about the issue of recasting everybody and so those conversations are happening now," he added.
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for "The Crown" season 2.
