"The Blacklist" wrapped up its third season with a handful of revelations particularly involving Liz's character, and the upcoming season 4 will see what happens after it was confirmed that she staged her death just to flee from Red.

Liz always had an interesting and complicated relationship with Red, but last season took a turn for the worst when she realized that Red betrayed her. In an effort to stay away from Red and keep her daughter safe, Liz faked her death as a last resort to find freedom.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Liz's portrayer Megan Boone shared her surprise after finding out that her character was not gone for good. "I can say that it's clear at this point that the answers Liz seeks about her mother, her past, and her connection to Red aren't going to come from Red. When Liz asks Red a question — possibly one she's asked him many times before — he is persistent in steering the conversation to a different subject," the actress explained. Red has always been evasive when it came to the to the subject of Liz's mother, so her effort to break away from him is understandable because it gave her the opportunity to find answers on her own.

In terms of how the team will react when they discover that Liz is alive, Boone expects a positive response from them. "A part of me thinks they'd want freedom for her," the actress said. "They've all seen firsthand the threat that she was under in Red's world. If they discover she's alive, I think they'll be relieved."

Liz's newfound freedom was cut short when she was kidnapped by a man claiming to be her father â€” Alexander Kirk. Spoiler reports speculate that this new complication in the story will lead to a reconciliation between Red and Liz. However, it will not be that easy because Red has to save Agnes first in order to win back Liz's trust.

Tune in to the season 4 premiere of "The Blacklist" on Sept. 22, Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
