'The Blacklist' Season 4 spoilers, plot news: Liz and Red to build stronger relationship in Season 4

The relationship of the characters of James Spader and Megan Boone in the hit NBC TV series "The Blacklist" is expected to grow stronger as the show enters its fourth season this year. The fans have seen the best and worst of the two main players of the drama thriller series, Elizabeth "Liz" Keen and Raymond "Red" Reddington, although it is expected that Season 4 will show more of the duo's dynamics. The shattering consequences of the recently concluded Season 3 might have affected the characters' bonds between them, but the two are expected to patch things up and unite against the common enemy.

To recall, the third season has been a roller-coaster ride for the characters of the show, especially for Liz and Red. The situation has gotten tough for all of them that one of them had to make a decision, even if that decision might be painful for everyone. After all, they need to put a stop on Kirk's evil machinations, but that may also come with a price. As reported by Cartermatt, the fans should expect more of Liz and Red teaming up and being as closer as ever, given that the series has always featured the interesting partnership of the two.

Moreover, Liz's character is expected to undergo a change as she will become "bolder" and tougher that she is able to take care of herself. The fans will no longer see her as the usual "damsel in distress." Still, this does not mean that Red will let her go by herself to face Kirk.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Blacklist" executive producer Jon Bokenkamp revealed what to expect in the reunion of Liz and Red in the upcoming fourth season.

"I can't imagine him abandoning Liz... She hurt him, but we often hurt the people we love," said Bokenkamp. "The fact he's been hurt isn't nearly enough for him to walk away."

The thing that hurt Red is the decision of Liz to pretend that she died. In the season finale, Liz revealed that she had to do it in order to mislead their enemies. However, this does not change the fact that Liz chose to hurt Red instead of trusting him with her plans.

In an interview with Spader via News Everyday, Spader revealed that Liz and Red's relationship may still go well in Season 4, as Red really understands why Liz had to pretend as a dead person for a few episodes in the third season.

"Listen, Liz has pushed Red away many times before and he's always waited patiently in the wings. So despite the fact that she's gone to extreme lengths to get away from him, I don't think he'll be changing," Spader said. "I think he would have an understanding of what led to this."
