'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers, cast news: Ryan Eggold to appear in new season; Tom and Liz part ways?

"The Blacklist" star Ryan Eggold (Tom Keen) says that fans can expect to see him in the first few episodes of the upcoming fourth season before he makes his debut in the show's as-yet-untitled spin-off.
The twist-filled season 3 finale of the NBC crime thriller saw Red (James Spader) looking to take down Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) as the new villain followed Tom and his baby daughter Agnes to Cuba. In a major surprise that caught many viewers off guard, Tom and Agnes arrived in Cuba where Tom's wife, Liz (Megan Boone), still alive, was waiting for them.
However, the family's reunion was short lived as Kirk eventually succeeded in kidnapping Liz before revealing that he is, in fact, her father, Constantine Rostova.
Eggold recently spoke to TVLine and said that the beginning of "The Blacklist" season 4 will deal with the breaking-up of Tom and Liz's family. The actor also confirmed that he will be in a number of episodes in season 4.
"It will partly be to send us down the trajectory of this new series, and for the characters, we'll find out what happens between Tom and Liz and what happens with this baby girl they both share," he said.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Blacklist" creator Jon Bokenkamp said that in season 4, the relationship between Kirk and Liz will give fans a better understanding of the latter's relationship with Red.
The "Blacklist" boss also spoke about whether or not season 4 will find Tom and Liz going their separate ways. According to Bokenkamp, while Tom will somehow factor into the Liz storyline, that particular plot will be driven by Red.
"I think the 'What happened to Liz?' question and that entire storyline is very 'Blacklist'-specific," he said. "It's exactly what we're going to be exploring at the top of season 4."
The "Blacklist" creator also spoke about how the series will deal with the fact of Tom and Liz having a baby and being a young family. According to him, while the "Blacklist" team has had long conversations about that particular element of the series, the only thing he knows for certain is that their family dynamic won't be akin to a domestic drama about changing diapers and other child-rearing scenarios.
"That's not what our audience is interested in, that's not what the show is," he explained. "The show is about turns, and surprises, and identity, and secrets."
"The Blacklist" will return in the fall on NBC.
