'The Blacklist' season 4 return date, spoilers: EP hints Mr. Kaplan's next move; midseason premiere date revealed

"The Blacklist" season 4 recently aired an intense fall finale, but fans still didn't get a clear answer on the long-standing mystery of the series.
Thursday's episode saw Alexander Kirk's (Ulrich Thomsen) men getting him from the hospital and taking Liz (Megan Boone) hostage. Kirk discovered Liz is not his daughter, and he continued to torture Red (James Spader) for answers on how he was tricked into believing that Liz was his daughter, when Red is actually her father.
Even though Red said he was Liz true father, some fans speculate that he is just telling Kirk what he wanted to hear. Kirk still wants to kill Red, until Red whispers something to him that stops him dead in his tracks. To make matters even more unclear, writer/producer Daniel Cerone posted a tweet following the big reveal. "I know what you're thinking. Red NEVER lies. He said he wasn't her father. But it will all make sense in end. #TheBlacklist @NBCBlacklist" he wrote.
In a post-mortem interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jon Bokenkamp answered one of the burning questions left by the episode: Is Red actually the real father of Liz? "I think it's best to let the show and its characters answer that," he said. "Anything that's meaningful is in the scripts and on the screen. Everything else is noise."
Bokenkamp also revealed that viewers have indeed seen the last of Kirk. There are speculations that Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) will follow his path, but the EP hopes it won't happen anytime soon. After escaping the cabin, Bokenkamp said its too early to tell what Mr. Kaplan's move is. "I think Mr. Kaplan is just lucky to get out of that cabin alive. She's lucky to escape Red. She's hitched a ride and off to god knows where," he added.
"The Blacklist" is scheduled to return for the latter half of Season 4 at midseason, starting on Jan. 5 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
