'The Blacklist' season 4 release date, spoilers news: Lotte Verbeek confirmed to return as Katerina Rostova, character to appear in 2 episodes

"The Blacklist" returns this Fall for its fourth season with a familiar character's return. Dutch actress Lotte Verbeek has been recently confirmed to join the series again and she will reprise her role as Liz Keen's mother/former Russian spy, Katarina Rostova.
Aside from Liz having to deal with her father Alexander Kirk and Red hell-bent on rescuing Liz and her daughter Agnes, viewers should also look forward to Katerina's comeback. Red previously told Liz that her mother was dead a long time ago, but the previous season proved that he has been keeping a lot of secrets from Liz. His relationship with Katerina was tackled further when he saw her ghost in the wake of Liz's fake death.
"In the first two seasons, we used pictures and a few fragments of memory, but Lotte brought Katarina to life in 'Cape May,'" executive producer Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly. "The fan response to that character has been great. The episode itself was a departure, but we've found some really interesting story opportunities as a result."
Verbeek is set to appear in at least two episodes for the fourth season, but how she will return remains under wraps. Bokenkamp also did not mention if she will appear earlier or later in the season.Though highly unlikely, there is a chance that she is still alive given the show's previous plot twists. As fans can recall, everyone thought Liz was dead when it was later on revealed that she faked everything to flee from Red. If Katerina will return in a flashback, it might happen when Kirk Alexander tells Liz about their family and why he is still alive. Up to now, Katerina's death remains a mystery which opens up the possibility of her being alive.
Tune in to "The Blacklist" season 4 which premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
