'The Blacklist' news: Spinoff series in the works, Ryan Eggold and Famke Janssen officially set to star

A spinoff of the hit NBC series "The Blacklist" is confirmed to be happening, and casting is currently in the works. The storyline of the still-untitled TV series will pick up on episode 322 of its mother show which will be aired on Thursday, May 12, a week before its season finale.
Famke Janssen will play the role of Susan "Scottie" Halsted, who will make her first appearance in the May 5 episode of the flagship series. Officially joining Janssen in "The Blacklist" spinoff is Ryan Eggold, who is set to reprise his role as undercover operative Tom Keen also known as Jacob Phelps. Joining the two is Edi Gathegi (Matias Solomon) who is a recurring character in the original show alongside new addition Tawny Cypress, according to reports.
As noted by Deadline, the spinoff will revolve around the relationship between Scottie and Tom. Given that Scottie is Tom's handler, it is said to be much like the relationship between Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader) and Liz (Megan Boone).
Since last year, rumors of a potential spinoff have been making rounds. Just last February, NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke caught up with Variety and she confirmed that the idea was on the table. However, she remained tight-lipped in terms of further details. "The only thing I can say is where talking about planting some characters in the show, much in the way that we do in the world of the 'Chicago' shows," she said. "They could be explored as a potential spin-off, but we have in no way committed to a spin-off series," Salke added.
Michael Dinner will direct then backdoor pilot, alongside Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath as executive producers. However, it is uncertain if they continue to handle the upcoming show given that "The Blacklist" is up for a season 4 renewal.
Initially released in 2013, "The Blacklist" remains as one of NBC's top-rating TV programs to date.
