It was said last year, and very recently this year, as season 9 released its finale, the word on the street is the same: "The Big Bang Theory" season 10 will be the show's last.

But is it really? The show's cast and production as well as its fans have held out this long hoping for better news. Two sources directly connected with the show have given their opinion on the matter, both believing that the upcoming season will be "The Big Bang Theory" swan song.

Kunal Nayyar, who has played the role of astrophysicist Raj since the beginning of "The Big Bang Theory" in 2007, shared his opinion regarding the future of the show beyond season 10 during the weekend's MCM Comic Con held in London.

"Look--next season, as it stands on our contract, could be the last season of 'Big Bang Theory,'" Nayyar said. "To be completely honest... I know people are gonna want to know what happens after season 10. I don't know what's going to happen."

He is the second person to have come out with word regarding this issue, and his remarks somehow echo those of showrunner Steve Molaro's, who last year said something to the same effect.

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter whether the show's producers are treating the season 10 preparations as though they were the last, Molaro replied, "I think so. I can't speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we'll be then but it's certainly possible that it could go past that."

Molaro went on to elaborate that he himself has no idea what will happen but that it is highly possible the "reality" of "The Big Bang Theory" season 10 is that it may be the end of the show.

Since the close of season 9, the issue has been looming closer. Without any new developments, it could turn out to be true. In the meantime, season 10 is still happening, and fans may be wondering what the possible last season could bring.

Molaro said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the cliffhanger ending in the "The Big Bang Theory" season 9 finale may be explained at the premiere of season 10. The scene that left the audience wondering was that of Leonard's father, Alfred (Judd Hirsch), and Sheldon's mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), going into the same hotel for a nightcap.

The showrunner explained, "I don't know what happened. I know they were getting along quite well, and left to go to the same hotel for a nightcap, and turned off their phones. The details of exactly what happened, if we even ever find out all the details, will be left for the season premiere of season 10."

The audience may see a hook-up between Alfred and Mary which can make things uncomfortable for Sheldon and Leonard come season 10. An offshoot of this possible entanglement is whether the viewers may be looking at the possibility of Sheldon and Leonard becoming brothers. Uncomfortable, but possible.

Howard and Bernadette, who were expecting a child when season 9 ended, could end up having the baby just in time for the end of season 10. The glacial relationship between Amy and Sheldon may finally take off next season, perhaps even head toward marriage. Penny and Leonard just got married in the latest season and may be planning a family in the next.

Anything is possible, just as what Molaro said in his interview with EW regarding season 10 picking up right where season 9 left off: "There's nothing set in stone."
