'The Americans' season 4 spoilers: Martha faces the truth; EP hints a fifth season is underway

FX's drama series "The Americans" will have a new episode tonight, where Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) will continue in their effort to keep their true identities safe. In the previous episodes, Paige (Holly Taylor), Tim (Kelly AuCoin) and Martha (Alison Wright) seem to be getting in the spies' way, forcing the two to find a way to keep their secrets under wraps.

Episode 6 will feature Martha as she comes face to face with the reality she has been avoiding for a long time. With that, her life will turn upside down and everything she knew will never be the same again. Furthermore, William's work might have yielded an unexpected result, and the latest "chilling" development places the Jennings in a difficult position. They are faced with the harsh truth which can plausibly lead to a biological war.

As noted by The Futon Critic, FX already released the synopsis for the upcoming episode which reads:

"Martha must finally face the truth she has denied - and her life may never be the same. Plus, a chilling new development in William's work forces the Jennings to face the realities of what a biological war would mean. Written by Joshua Brand; directed by Kari Skogland."

"The Americans" season 4 airs Wednesdays, 10:00 p. m. EST on FX. The promo clip for the show's sixth episode tonight titled "The Rat" can be viewed here.

Season 1 is only halfway through, but fans are already wondering if the show will come back next season. In terms of a season renewal, FX has yet to officially confirm if it will run for another season. However, executive producer Joel Fields recently hinted through his Twitter account that the writers room has convened for a possible season 5. "First day of Season 5 Writers' Camp! :-) #TheAmericans," the showrunner's post reads.
