Noah's (Dominic West) request devastates Helen (Maura Tierney) in the upcoming episode of Showtime's hit drama "The Affair" season 3.

Titled "Episode 2," next week's "The Affair" will center on the events that transpired one year ago. According to the official synopsis for episode 2, Noah makes a stern request that leaves Helen devastated. Also, various pressures from different people cause Helen and Vik to take a closer look at their relationship and figure out what to do next. Alison (Ruth Wilson) makes her way back to Montauk following a major crisis, only to have her worst fears realized.

The show's third season made its anticipated premiere this week, and it featured Noah finally out of prison. However, even though he is no longer spending his time behind bars, he still doesn't feel free. Noah met a new love interest as he tries to navigate his life as a free man, but his traumatic past in jail continues to negatively affect him.

Speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald, series writer/producer Sarah Treem discussed what viewers should look forward to this season. According to her, the story will revolve around each characters' accountability. "It gets worse before it gets better with all of the characters having to take stock of who they actually are. And they are all very much at odds with themselves this season," she revealed.

Aside from the show's overarching theme of having affairs, the story will dig deeper into Noah's relationship with his mother. This gives viewers an insight on how he turned out that way.

"It takes two parents to create a child and I do think that Noah's relationship with his father and his anger toward his father is kind of more obvious than his relationship with his mum," the writer/producer explained. "But I think Noah's relationship with his mum and what happened and the circumstances surrounding her death are very much a part of why he became the person he is. So we will find out."

"The Affair" season 3 airs every Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
