The Texas teen who was suspended from his school earlier this year for bringing a homemade clock to campus will visit the White House this week.

Ahmed Mohamed, a 14-year-old former student at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas, made headlines earlier this year after he was led out of his school in handcuffs and suspended for bringing a homemade clock to show his science teacher.

Mohamed had been accused of bringing a contraband item on to the school campus.

Following the national news of the teen's arrest, U.S. President Barack Obama invited Mohamed to visit the White House.

"Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great," the president tweeted in mid-September.

Mohamed is reportedly scheduled to visit the White House this week for the White House Astronomy Night.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement on Monday that although Mohamed is due to visit the White House, he will likely not meet President Obama one on one.

"I don't believe that the president will have an opportunity to meet one on one with Ahmed Mohamed," Earnest said. "After all, there are several hundred people who are planning to participate in tonight's festivities on the South Lawn."

"[…] we certainly are pleased that he will be able to come to the White House to participate in that event," Earnest added.
