Taylor Swift New Album '1989' Sales: Swift Sells Almost 1.3 Million Copies In First Week

"1989," Taylor Swift's latest album, sold nearly 1.3 million copies in its first week. Nielsen SoundScan reported that it has been the biggest album sales week since 2002.

Not a single album has posted such a number since Eminem's "The Eminem Show," which sold more than 1.3 albums on its second week 12 years ago. This makes Swift the only single artist to reach platinum sales this year.

"Frozen" sold 3.2 million albums this year, but Swift became the second biggest seller in just a week.

"1989" is Taylor's fourth album. "Red," which was released in 2012, also topped the Billboard. Her other albums were "Speak Now" in 2010 and "Fearless" in 2008, both equally successful.

The 24-year-old is now the only female singer to have three albums selling more than one million copies in just a week. "Red" sold 1.2 million copies in 2012.

What is more impressive is that the album is not only selling; critics also think it's a perfect transition from Swift's being a country queen to a pop princess.

However, while fans celebrate her success, do not expect her name in this year's Grammys as the nomination already closed last Sept. 30. Taylor's "Shake It Off" may still receive some awards though.

As to whether "1989" will be able to claim the title of "Best-Selling Album of the Year," this remains uncertain. With only two months remaining before the next Grammys, it is rather unlikely. Whatever happens during the Grammys, one thing is for certain: Her album will continue to sell like hot cakes.
