A singer with the Russian girl band t.A.T.u has made waves for saying that she would not support a homosexual son, saying that she would want her son to fill his role by God to "procreate."

While speaking on the Ukrainian television show "Lie Detector," former t.A.T.u member Yulia Volkova said that while she would not approve of her son's homosexuality, she would approve of her daughter's homosexuality because it is more "aesthetically pleasing."

"Yes, I would condemn him, because I believe that a real man must be a real man," she said. "God created man for procreation, it is the nature. The man for me is the support, the strength of [...] I won't accept a gay son."

The singer apparently also used a derogatory slur when referring to gay men, but the word was censored on television.

The artist went on to say that she would support daughter if she were a lesbian. "It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing."

Volkova was quick to defend herself in the interview, saying that she does not see herself as being "homophobic."

"I want to say that I'm not against gays, I just want my son to be a real man, not a [expletive]," she said. "I have many gay friends. I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay a little better than the rest."

Fans of Volkova and her t.A.T.u band have criticized the recent remarks, as the band was previously seen as an advocate for the LGBT community.
