T.D. Jakes on Supreme Court Gay Marriage Ruling: 'The World is Going to Be the World'
Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter's House in Dallas, Texas recently offered his opinion on the Supreme Court ruling regarding same-sex marriage, saying Christians shouldn't "lose their minds over the world being the world."
"I'm not really as concerned about this as a lot of people are," Jakes said of the recent hearing during his sermon this past weekend. "I'm really not as concerned about it. I think that we should not lose our mind about the world being the world and the Church being the Church. This is not a news flash. The world is gonna be the world and the Church is gonna be the Church, and you have to understand the difference."
"The Supreme Court is there to make a decision based on constitutional rights and legalities that fit all Americans. They are not debating Scripture," Jakes continued, adding "They are just not debating Scripture."
"I guarantee you that they were not in there looking at Romans 1 and First Corinthians this and weighing it against the policies," Jakes adding, saying "We have bought into all this rhetoric about America being a Christian nation."
The Supreme Court ruled recently that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right, thus making it legal for all same-sex couples in all U.S. states to marry.
Conservative and religious leaders alike have spoken out against the ruling, including 2016 presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee and evangelical pastor Franklin Graham, among others.
Some county clerks throughout the nation have stepped down from their posts since the ruling.
