Lifetime's critically-acclaimed drama will soon air its fifth and final season, but what can fans expect when the show nears its end?

The hit family drama will pick up right where it left off in season 4, with Bay and Daphne finally living independently as they take on new jobs. However, the two get a call from someone familiar, and rumor has it that it was their parents asking them to come home immediately due to an emergency.

According to spoiler reports, tensions might be running high in the Kennish household which compels the two girls to return home. There are speculations that the first episode of season 5 titled "The Call" will explore John and Kathryn's plan to have a divorce, as well as a possible emergency involving Toby and Lily's baby. Bay's romantic life is also likely to be explored in season 5, and she might have a relationship with Travis. However, a lot of fans still root for Bay and Emmett, so a love triangle involving the three characters might be one of the complications in the drama's farewell season.

Series creator Lizzy Weiss previously revealed that the show's final episode will take place in the Kennish home, taking viewers back to when the pilot episode aired. The plot will also be nostalgic for loyal viewers since Bay's portrayer Vanessa Marano hinted in an interview that lots of "returning story lines" will be included.

"We left a lot of loose ends open last season so now we're tying everything together," Marano told Just Jared Jr. "There's a lot of...it's very much like a new year because so much time has passed and the girls are at these new places in their lives."

"Switched at Birth" season 5 is expected to premiere sometime in January 2017.
