Slated to arrive in 2017, "Switched at Birth" fans will be disappointed to know that the series' upcoming season 5 will also be its last.

As announced by the show's executive producer Lizzy Weiss via Twitter, "This season of #SwitchedatBirth will be our final one. We are ending the show after an amazing 103 episodes with pride, love, and gratitude."

Entertainment Weekly asked for a comment from Freeform (formerly known as ABC Family), and a representative confirmed that the last season will have 10 episodes, as it concludes with a special 90-minute finale.

The Peabody Award-winning show wrapped its fourth season last Oct. 26, 2015, making fans eager to watch the upcoming season given that it has been off-air for over a year now.

In terms of casting news, TV Overmind reported some new faces to make an appearance in the upcoming final season of the show. Someone with "unexpected" ties with the extended family will come into surface, which will be portrayed by actress Tristin Mays who was also in "The Vampire Diaries" as Sarah. Speculations claim that she is the long-lost daughter of Angelo (Gilles Marini), but that rumor is still unconfirmed. Also mixing in with the Vasquez-Kennish family is Valery Ortiz from "Hit the Floor," who will be playing as a tattoo artist named Noelle. Regina will bond with a UMKC student named Luca, which will be portrayed by Michael Galante.

Just recently, the series filmed its 100th episode as they near the end of the journeys of Bay, Daphne and the rest of the Vasquez-Kennish family. The series owes its success from how it used issues as a catalyst to "weave amazing, relevant family drama," as reported by Bustle. Furthermore, with the characters of Daphne and Emmett, the series was recognized for its "unparalleled commitment to showcasing American Sign Language and Deaf Culture."

As of the moment, only the year when "Switched at Birth" season 5 will be aired is confirmed.
