For the past few years, four Surface Pro generations of tablet/laptop hybrid devices were released, as well as the Surface Book line. With their venture into the world of premium tablets and laptops proven to be successful, there are rumors buzzing around the internet whether Microsoft Corporation will release a new flagship line for smartphones.

As revealed in the Wired website, the rumor started when Microsoft's corporate vice president Panos Panay talked about a prototype of a new phone that his group has been working on. Up to this date, the so-called Surface Phone is believed to be a high-end smartphone that will have the same features of the Surface line.

Fresh from the success of the Surface Pro and Surface Book, many are expecting that the Surface Phone will be created in a way that it would reflect the same technology used on the Surface line that made Microsoft's current flagship gadgets a certified hit.

If the Surface Phone rumor turns out to be true, the Microsoft smartphone is expected to be introduced to the world this year. The rumored features of the phone as reported by PC Advisor include a 5.5-inch QUAD-HD AMOLED display, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB and 128 GB storage memory options with external microSD supported, a 64-bit Intel processor and rear and front cameras with 21 MP and 8 MP resolutions, respectively. Similar to Surface Pro, the Smart Phone will also have a Surface Pen as well as the updated USB-C port.

The Country Caller reported that the QUAD-HD AMOLED display of Surface Phone will have 1440.2560 resolution and it will be running in Windows 10 operating system, which is the most likely case since the previous Microsoft premium smartphones have Windows 10 pre-installed. The processor that is reported to be used in the Surface Phone is Intel Atom x3 processor.

The most recent smartphone that Microsoft has launched is Lumia 650. It is not known whether the Lumia series will have more follow-up designs in the future, although some noted that this latest Microsoft smartphone is in no way near the rumored Surface Phone that they have been expecting.
