'Supernatural' season 12 updates: Misha Collins talks character Castiel, hints at cast addition

Jared Padalecki as Sam and Jensen Ackles as Dean in \"Supernatural\" | The CW

The premiere of "Supernatural" season 12 is quickly drawing near and fans of the fantasy horror series are now interested in getting as much details and bits of spoilers as to what will happen when Winchester brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) and the rest of the characters return for more feats and adventures. Not only are followers of the show asking about the main heroes, they are also curious about the development of the Angel of the Lord Castiel (Misha Collins).

Collins talked to Bustle about Castiel and his own hopes for further evolution of the character that he portrays. He shared that he would wish to revisit the Castiel from the fourth season as he was seen during the time. He observed that Castiel's powers are somehow being restrained and curtailed. Collins would want the Angel of the Lord to once again be an ally — a powerful one, at that — to Sam and Dean especially since the brothers apparently do not have the capabilities of their own to magically solve all of the problems they are involved in. The actor further remarked that it has been quite some time since the character was seen at his full might in the way he once was.

Meanwhile, with regard to the new cast member to be added to the roster of "Supernatural" characters, Collins teased, "I know one person who's been hired in season 12." However, he refused to elaborate more or drop a name.

The preceding season of "Supernatural" witnessed the ascent of The Darkness/Amara (Emily Swallow) as well as the return of Chuck (Rob Benedict) and Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino). In the finale episode of season 12, Chuck and Amara reunited as they took off from the Earth. It was also when Sam and Dean's mother Mary (Samantha Smith) was resurrected and was brought back together with the brothers. There was also the introduction of a new character by the name of Lady Antonia Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore) of the London Chapters of Men of Letters. She jumped in an attack toward Sam, whom the Men of Letters were chasing down and intending to punish because of an offense he had done in the past.

"Supernatural" season 12 will be expected to delve more deeply into the story arc that will encompass Lady Antonia and Mary Winchester.

These are but predictions as even the cast members are kept in the dark with regard to the succeeding storylines.

"Y'all know bout the show exactly what we know about the show," Padalecki said at Creation Entertainment's Salute to Supernatural. "During the year, that doesn't exist. During the year, we know what's going on; we know five storylines ahead, seven storylines ahead," he added.

"Supernatural" season 12 premiere will air on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m on The CW.
