Two characters will form an unlikely alliance to fight against Lucifer in the upcoming season 12 of "Supernatural."

Lucifer is still on the loose, and rock star Vince Vicente (Rick Springfield) will be the King of Hell's latest vessel. This spells bad news for Crowley (Mark Sheppard), who is planning to reclaim his throne in hell, and for Castiel (Misha Collins), who is still angry with Lucifer for using him as a vessel. Season 12 will see the two characters team up and try to take down Lucifer once and for all.

"Castiel and Crowley have kind of teamed up in season 12 and are working together," Collins told Entertainment Weekly.  Fans can also expect a '70s sitcom/'80s buddy cop comedy-inspired dynamic between the pair as they take on the fallen angel.

The previous season left off with the reconciliation between God and Amara, but fans may be wondering what happened to the siblings after the season 11 finale. Showrunner Andrew Dabb says God trusts Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) very much, which makes him comfortable leaving everything in their hands.

"We're not going to play it heavily in season 12," Dabb explained, referring to God (Rob Benedict) and Amara's (Emily Swallow) story arc. "I wouldn't say conclusively that their story is over, but I would say that their story is happening off-screen. God, in a lot of ways, trusts Sam and Dean more than he trusts himself. God has made mistakes...They have saved more people than he has, basically."

Meanwhile, the series celebrated its milestone 12th anniversary last September 13. Dubbed as "Supernatural Day" by fans, The CW marked the occasion by releasing a new key art and on-set photos from the upcoming installment. The latest promo images feature Winchester brothers Sam and Dean as they reunite and continue the fight against evil with their mother Mary (Samantha Smith).

Catch the season 12 premiere of "Supernatural" on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
