'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers: Sam and Dean deal with a secretive devout religious family in episode 4; stars express hope to reunite with former boss Eric Kripke for series finale

The Winchester brothers deal with a devout religious family living off the grid in the upcoming episode of The CW's long-running drama "Supernatural" season 12.
Titled "American Nightmare," next week's episode will see the Winchesters deal with yet another strange case. According to the official synopsis for episode 4, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) look into a case that eventually leads them to a devout religious family who lives off the grid. As the investigation progresses, the brothers realize that the parents are hiding a huge secret that could end them all. Meanwhile, Dean finds it difficult to agree with Mary's (guest star Samantha Smith) latest decision.
Even though it is a universally acknowledged truth that there's no end in sight for "Supernatural," stars Padalecki and Ackles recently shared their thoughts on the show's conslusion. According to the duo, they their former boss, Eric Kripke, will return to write the series finale someday.
"I don't like to say, 'When the show ends,' because the show's not going to end," Padalecki told TV Line. "But when the show does start to wrap down, I would love to see Eric come back and give his opinion. Because he created us in the first place, so it would be an honor." Ackles shares the same sentiment, adding, "It would be a nice little bow on top of the whole thing [to] have Eric take us out."
Kripke, who is behind NBC's rookie time-travel drama "Timeless," was also interviewed by the publication and he mentioned he is more than willing to pen the finale when the time comes. "I do fantasize that it would be great to at least come in and be a co-writer of the finale, whenever that would be," Kripke said. "But obviously that depends on what [executive producer] Bob Singer wants, what [co-showrunner] Andrew Dabb wants [and] what I'm doing at the time. But yes, the idea of it would be cool, if possible."
