"Supernatural" kicked off its milestone 12th season with an emotional reunion between May and her son Dean, while Sam continued to struggle after being shot by Toni.

On Thursday's premiere titled "Keep Calm and Carry On," Dean took Mary back to the Men of Letters bunker where they found a trail of Sam's blood. Castiel eventually enters the scene, and Dean introduces his mom to the angel. Mary and Castiel have a light bonding scene when they talked about the struggles of adjusting to life on Earth. They also have something else in common, a strong determination to rescue Sam.

Sam, on the other hand, was seen tied up in the back of an SUV. To fix Sam's bullet wound, Toni managed to hire a veterinarian that she pays $100,000 to be discreet with his work. She and her friend later chained Sam to a chair as they both introduced themselves and  tortured him. Crowley is on the hunt for Lucifer, who's currently jumping from one vessel to another. Crowley was unsuccessful in finding him, but when he finally tracks Lucifer down, he plans to kill him.

Speaking with Us Magazine, executive producer Bob Singer revealed that one of the highlights of this season is the search for Lucifer. "We've still got Lucifer out there, so there's a hunt for Lucifer," he said. Gunning for Lucifer is certainly nothing new on "Supernatural," but it appears to be a huge part of the story for season 12. Aside from Crowley, Castiel will also stop at nothing to catch the King of Hell. "Cas is back to a little bit of Cas from season 4: He's angry, and he's in a fighting spirit. He's after Lucifer," actor Misha Collins revealed.

The 12th season of "Supernatural" airs every Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
