'Supernatural' season 12 episode 8 spoilers, news: Lucifer gets new vessel in the White House; Jared Padalecki talks about Lucifer storyline

The chase continues in the upcoming episode of The CW's hit series "Supernatural" season 12.
Titled "Lotus," next week's episode will see the Winchesters continue to track down the King of Hell. According to the official synopsis, Lucifer's search for more influence and power lands him in a vessel working in the White House. The President of The United States (guest star David Chisum) unknowingly makes a dangerous deal with the devil and becomes the new vessel for his sinister plans.
Lucifer's new move forces Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), Castiel (Misha Collins), Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), and Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) to team up and end the Dark Lord's sinister acts once and for all.
Back in season 11, the show explored the biggest supernatural themes in existence: the fight between God (Rob Benedict) and his sister, Amara (Emily Swallow), a.k.a. the Darkness. The creators decided to turn the story down a notch and tell more personal arcs about family, so they re-introduced Sam and Dean's mother, Mary (Samantha Smith), who came back from the dead. In the previous episode titled "Rock Never Dies," Lucifer's story arc resurfaced again, and musician Rick Springfield played the role of Lucifer's last vessel, aging rock icon Vince Vicente.
Padalecki recently caught up with Nerdist, and he revealed that he liked the idea of revisiting the Lucifer story arc even though the main focus this season is family. "You know, we just had God and his sister the Darkness, and Lucifer. It was so big at the end of season 11 that we weren't going to go bigger, so we kind of brought it down without really losing the world," he explained. "... And I like that Supernatural was able to do that and I always love the Lucifer storylines. I always feel a kindred connection, as I'm sure Misha does, having played Lucifer for many episodes," the actor added.
The 12th season of "Supernatural" airs every Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
