'Supernatural' season 12 air date, spoilers, updates: Premiere episode's synopsis revealed; Mother and son team to save Sam?

"Supernatural" season 12 is premiering in a few days, and it looks like after more than a decade on television, the series is not yet done with its mission. The upcoming installment promises to be more intense and features more breathtaking scenes as it follows the lives of siblings Dean and Sam, their mom Mary who's back from the dead, and their badass angel friend, Castiel.

Synopses for the first and second episodes were recently released, and Dread Central quotes the synopsis for episode 1 titled "Keep Calm and Carry On" with Sam (Jared Padalecki) fighting for dear life after he was abducted by the Men of Letters and ultimately shot by the Woman of Letters, none other than Lady Toni Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore). It's in the premiere episode where Dean (Jensen Ackles) will come face-to-face with his mother, Mary (Samantha Smith) after she was brought back from the dead.

Fans could expect a huge adjustment in the storyline with Mary returning to life after years of being buried six feet under. She was dead for more than 30 years, so it will be a treat to see the dynamics between her and her children who are all grown up now. However, one thing fans will discover about Mary is that she hasn't lost her touch when it comes to hunting, and this she will display in full in the upcoming installment.

Episode 2 will be titled "Mama Mia," and based on the title, Mary will insist in joining Dean as he hies off to search for Sam. Dean will not want her to take part in the rescue mission, but after several arguments, it looks like Mary will have her way and join the search operation.

The upcoming installment will likewise see a few standalone episodes featuring the backstory of Castiel (Misha Collins), plus a new vessel for Lucifer. This time around, he will be inhabiting the body of a rock star, who will be played by Rick Springfield, no less.

"Supernatural" season 12 will premiere on Oct. 13 at 9:00 p.m. on The CW.
