'Supergirl' season 2B spoilers: Andrew Kreisberg talks about show being 'committed' to Alex and Maggie's relationship

A lot has happened in the first half of season 2 of "Supergirl" that it is almost forgettable that the show had been in limbo just before The CW picked it up from CBS. One of the major milestones of the DC small screen universe series is to successfully encapsulate Alex's (Chyler Leigh) journey from realizing her gender preference to finally coming out to her family as seen in the midseason finale with her mom. Moving forward, Kara's (Melissa Benoist) sister might have already come out of her shell plus a love interest waiting for her on the horizon with Maggie (Floriana Lima) but the show is committed to bringing her story more relatable to the real world.
In an exclusive conversation with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg shares some nuggets of information on how Alex's life will move forward in the second half of the season.
"The chemistry between Chyler and Floriana, if you could bottle and sell that, you could rule the world," Kreisberg spilled. "They so deserve to be together, but like any great couple, they had to get past their own stuff to finally get there."
But just how long will "Supergirl" milk this particular narrative? It can be remembered that while there have been a lot of shows that have jumped in the same-sex relationship story, these plots seem to be short-lived. This has caused a major uproar from viewers who claim that these shows while upholding social consciousness, appear to insinuate that this kind of relationships can happen but just not going to be lived happily in a long time. Kreisberg, however, reiterates that the folks behind the show are planning to run the dynamics and follow through it.
"The important thing is that we're committed to this relationship and we're committed to seeing it grow, change, blossom, and struggle, but also get stronger, deeper and more loving as we go forward," the TV exec said in a separate interview for Natalie Abrams' "Spoiler Room" feature for the same media outlet. "I don't think people need to worry that suddenly this relationship is going to go by the wayside. It's going to have it's ups and downs, but we're committed to Alex and Maggie — we're as committed to Alex and Maggie as the audience is."
"Supergirl" is scheduled to be back on air on Jan. 23, 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
