'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Project Cadmus to be major threat; director Kevin Smith gets emotional

The Girl of Steel, Kara Zor-El, may have defeated several villains in season 1 but she will have to face a bigger threat when the second season of "Supergirl" returns this fall.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that evil will have a more scientific face in the upcoming season as Project Cadmus becomes Supergirl's next great adversary. "[Project Cadmus is] dedicated to eradicating alien life on Earth. They're fanatics. They're true believers. It's a collection of scientists, of very bright, patriotic people who truly believe what they're saying. That makes them even more dangerous," he explained.
For the uninitiated, Project Cadmus is also the mysterious organization responsible for holding Jeremiah Danvers hostage.
Meanwhile, director Kevin Smith has recently confirmed that he will direct one episode of the show's upcoming season. While sharing the news of his directorial debut in "Supergirl" through his YouTube channel called Fat Man on Batman, Smith's lively chat turned quite emotional when he explained the significance of the episode's title.
"[Executive Producer] Andrew Kreisberg told me the name of the episode is 'Supergirl Lives,'" Smith said. "I'm going to cry talking about this. The name of the script I wrote back in 1996 was called 'Superman Lives,'" Smith said.
As a self-confessed fan of "Supergirl" and her male counterpart, Smith also shared how he looks forward to working with the series. Having written a "Superman" script years ago, he says it's a dream come true to be working on a show that features the Man of Steel as a recurring character.
Superman's arrival in the story is also one of the highlights in the coming season and according to Kreisberg, Kara will learn a lot from him since she is till figuring things out in her life. Her cousin Clark a.k.a. Superman will help her realize an important lesson — that individuals "seemingly making it look easy are having just as hard a time as everyone else."
The CW's "Supergirl" season 2 returns on Monday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. EDT.
