'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Girl of Steel butts heads with Superman; Kara and James' relationship to move forward

The upcoming second season of "Supergirl" will introduce Kara's cousin Superman, but it may not be the happy family reunion most fans expect.
Along with the cast and crew of "Supergirl," series newcomer Tyler Hoechlin attended this week's Comic-Con where he shared his thoughts on playing the iconic role of Superman. "Definitely incredibly surreal," he said (via Entertainment Weekly). "I know the character represents so much to so many people."
According to executive producer Sarah Schechter, Hoechlin has yet to try on his suit but there will definitely be tension between the two heroes when they meet. Because of their opposing views on certain matters, their dynamic as the series moves forward is something that fans should look forward to. "Clark has a very different experience of what it means to have superpowers on earth," she explained. "There's some head-butting and philosophical approaches that are different. We'll get into that."
The first season focused mainly on Kara/Supergirl's story and how she relates to other characters. Schechter mentioned that season 2 will explore more on family, stressing why this is the right time for the Man of Steel to enter the picture."To be honest, in season one that show was about Kara and it's about Supergirl," Schechter continued. "This show is about family and it's about the family that you make as an adult and this family that's come together and then it's also about the family you came from [and] we have Clark to represent the family. I think it's only natural now that Cara reconnects with him."
As for James and Kara's relationship, season 1 left off with the two sharing a romantic kiss. The new chapter will feature how their relationship will move forward while finding balance in their personal lives. "It's a workplace relationship," James' portrayer Mehcad Brooks said. "It's a new relationship. There's going to be up and down. She's still figuring out who she is as a woman, and I'm still figuring out things about myself."
