'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Filming moves to Vancouver, Calista Flockhart to return for recurring role

Calista Flockhart has been confirmed to return to "Supergirl" season 2  but this time, she will no longer be a series regular.

Flockhart will reprise her role as Cat Grant but her exposure will be lessened because of the show's move to Canada. According to Deadline, the "Ally McBeal" alumna only took acting gigs based in Los Angeles where her family resides. She landed the role in "Supergirl" because it films in LA but after the series moved from CBS to The CW, production had to be transferred to another location as well. Filming will now be set in Vancouver where scenes for the network's other superhero series are shot. This decision to transfer helped the network to significantly reduce production costs as the show adjusts to its new home. Flockhart's character is set to appear in the first episode of season 2.

The publication's sources say that the new location set-up became "problematic" for both the actress and the network but a compromise has been reached. She will do as many scenes possible every time she goes to the set, banking material for several episodes per trip. Rumor has it that she will still be paid the same back when she was a series regular.

"Supergirl wouldn't be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a press statement. "We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen."

Newcomers for the upcoming sophomore season include Floriana Lima as Detective Maggie Sawyer, "Wonder Woman" star Lynda Carter as the U.S. president, Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman/Clark Kent. According to executive producer Sarah Schechter, Hoechlin's arrival as the Man of Steel/Kara's cousin is an important part of the series as they delve deeper into the heroine's backstory.

Tune in to the season 2 premiere of "Supergirl' which airs on Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
