Will Kara\'s cousin, Superman, make an appearance on \"Supergirl\" season 2? | The CW

A lackluster season finale notwithstanding, there's no arguing "Supergirl" lived up to the hype it received before it officially aired. That's why fans were puzzled with CBS' decision to drop the show soon after the first season. Now that The CW has taken the reins, it looks like the character Melissa Benoist gave life to would be seeing more adventures in "Supergirl" season 2.

There are reports that Kara/Supergirl's famous cousin, none other than Superman, will be doing a cameo in the first and second episode of "Supergirl" season 2. As for who would portray Superman in the series, no one has been named yet. Nevertheless, Design & Trend put together five actors whom they think would give justice to the role.

Among these actors are Tom Welling who has the upper hand considering he already played the Man of Steel in "Smallville," Ian Harding who plays Ezra Fitzgerald in "Pretty Little Liars," "White Collar" alum Matt Bomer, Ryan McPartlin of "Devious Maids," and Sam Witwer who played the villain Doomsday in "Smallville."

Meanwhile, Movie Pilot reported that "Supergirl" season 2 might see Supergirl's involvement with the Justice Society of America, which is also expected to figure prominently in DC's "Legends of Tomorrow" season 2.

Should that angle push through, fans could expect major crossovers between several superhero series in the DC Universe included "The Flash," "Arrow," "Supergirl," and "Legends of Tomorrow."

Five new characters are also expected to join the show's second season apart from the yet to be cast Man of Steel. TV Line has previously reported that Lena Luthor, younger sister of Lex, would become a series regular. It is said that Lena would come down to National City to escape Lex, whom everyone knows is Superman's arch-nemesis. Would Lena make life miserable for the heroine? That's something fans should watch out for in season 2.

A man named Nick Farrow would also join the bunch. He's the son of a famous reporter who wants to step out of the shadows, but in the process, could also make life difficult for Kara.

Snapper Carr, a seasoned journalist, will be handpicked by Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) to revamp the newsroom. Another woman character known as the Doctor will be introduced. Apparently, she uses her skills to implant alien technology to unknowing prisoners. There would also be a lesbian detective, Maggie, who's working for the Science Police. These three characters will have recurring roles in "Supergirl" season 2.

"Supergirl" season 2 is expected to premiere this Fall on The CW and will assume its Monday time slot of 8 p.m.
