Big changes are afoot when "Supergirl" returns in 2017. But will the new year also usher in the gravest danger to the Girl of Steel's life?

The show's midseason finale gave viewers a peek on an unknown alien race that seemed to be hunting for Mon-El (Chris Wood), before Earth's Daxamite visitor himself got a look about him that seemed to suggest he was hiding something.

In the trailer for the upcoming episode of "Supergirl," Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) finds herself transported to a planet orbiting around a red sun. As to which planet this is, how and why she gets there, and what makes her eventually bleed, are mysteries that can only be solved when the show airs its midseason premiere in January.

There are speculations that the red sun in the trailer may be none other than Krypton's sun, Rao. Could Kara find herself back in her previously destroyed home planet, or its neighboring world Daxam, in some alternate reality, dream sequence, or any other supernatural projection, to discover something that may very well involve Earth's newest alien visitor?

Will this potential revelation finally shed light on Mon-El's true identity, or will Kara's visit to the unidentified planet with the red sun turn out to be a ploy simply meant to endanger her life?

The show's first episode back is titled "Supergirl Lives," which is said to be a nod to "Superman Lives," which was a Superman movie reboot that episode director, Kevin Smith, wrote for Tim Burton back in early 2000. The said movie would have seen Nicholas Cage take on the Man of Steel's mantle, but things unfortunately fell apart during production and the movie never saw the light of day.

The next episode of "Supergirl" will definitely be airing on Monday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
