CBS has been successful so far in bringing to life one of the strongest and well-loved female DC superheroes of all time: Supergirl. The clock is already ticking, however, as the freshman TV series is set to conclude in an action-packed episode where Supergirl/Kara Danvers (played by Melissa Benoist) will see herself in the biggest battle of her life. Will she survive the battle?

In the finale that will be aired on April 18 at 8 p.m. EST, Supergirl will come face to face with formidable foes in hopes to save the National City for destruction. However, as the latest reports say, the heroine may have to risk her own life in order to save the people she swore to protect.

International Business Times quoted the official synopsis for the finale episode on Monday.

"Supergirl is forced to do battle with an unexpected foe and must risk everything - including her life - to prevent Non and Indigo from destroying every person on the planet, on the first season finale of Supergirl."

Kara may actually face a grim fate as "Supergirl" director, Kevin Smith teased that the upcoming episode will make a lot of the viewers cry and it will be very different from what some people think that the show is all "cute puppies and kittens." Things are going to be less fun and more serious for Supergirl as there will be something along the way for the Kryptonian heroine that is going to affect her "in a great way."

No one knows if Supergirl will survive the clash in the finale, but another big question at the moment is whether the show will be renewed for a second season. "Supergirl" was not among the 11 shows which CBS granted a renewal, although David Harewood who plays the role of the Martian Manhunter in "Supergirl" told Digital Spy that things are still looking "very positive" in spite of the uncertainty of the show getting renewed.

"I've heard lots of rumblings...There are no guarantees, but CBS has made some very positive noises. All I know is that we've just had one of our biggest audiences of the year so far with the Flash crossover so it's all looking positive," Harewood said in the interview.

"The fans have been very vociferous and very vocal, so hopefully it's enough to get us a second season."
