For many Android users, it was a huge letdown when Nintendo first released "Super Mario Run" exclusively for iOS. However, those who are interested in downloading the game for their Android devices can now pre-register through the Google Play store.

To pre-register, users should simply go to the Play store and look up "Super Mario Run" by using the search bar. After tapping on the game, a green button that says "Pre-register" can be seen on the right. Users must tap on the said button to receive a notification on their device once the Android app is officially released. The button turns into an "Unregister" button, which users can click if they no longer want to receive any notification about "Super Mario Run."

"Mario constantly moves forward through the courses while you use a variety of jumps to navigate. Mario will behave differently depending on the timing of your taps, so it's up to you to show off particularly smooth moves, gather coins, and reach the goal," the Nintendo game's Google Play listing reads. Also indicated in the listing are the game's three modes: World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder.

Announced by Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto at an Apple event in September 2016, "Super Mario Run" is the first game that launched the company's beloved mascot to the smartphone platform. Featuring the original franchise's 2D graphical style, the game allows players to control Mario as he jumps and flips towards every level's finishing flag.

Upon hitting Apple's iTunes store on Dec. 15, the mobile game easily became the iOS platform's fastest growing app — scoring a whopping 50 million downloads for its first week. "Super Mario Run" is available as a free game with limited levels. Most of its challenges are only made accessible through a single purchase worth $9.99.

Nintendo has yet to announce a release date for the Android version of "Super Mario Run," but it is expected to arrive by the end of January.
