At the Apple event last Wednesday, Sept. 7, the tech giant did not only reveal its latest iPhone model. The company also announced that Nintendo's classic gaming icon Mario will be making its way to iOS soon. The game will be an auto-runner game called "Mario Run."

At the launching, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto made the announcement in front of excited spectators. This will be the first Mario game for mobile devices. The official press release revealed that the game will be available on the App Store this December.

The game will have the same concept as the original. Mario will need to collect as much coins as he can, avoid all the obstacles and reach the flagpole before time runs out.

Unlike the previous games, users will only be able to move forward, up and down. Mario will automatically run through the playing field. Players simply need to tap the screen to get the character to jump. For higher jumps, players simply have to hold down their finger a bit longer. Gamers can also take advantage of the arrows distributed in the game. The arrows will boost Mario's jumps. Furthermore, the character will be able to climb across certain portions of the ceiling, allowing users to avoid the obstacles without any hassle.

Sources reported the game will be free for download; however, only a limited part of the game will be available. If users desire to unlock more levels, they have to pay a set price. As to the specific amount, the game developer has yet to reveal the details.

As for Android users, they shouldn't dismay. Although the game will be initially released for iOS, Nintendo has intentions of launching it for Android smartphones in the near future. Reports said the game will be available on Android devices next year.
