'Suits' season 6B air date, summer finale plot news: Stars react to major character's exit; series returning 2017
The summer finale of "Suits" season 6 ended with yet another shocking twist when Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) decided to leave the firm, but it may not be the last time viewers will see her.
In the show's 10th episode, Jessica realized that she doesn't want to continue being a corporate lawyer anymore. She decided to step down as a name partner of Pearson Specter Litt (P.S.L.) and start a new life with her lover Jeff Malone (D.B. Woodside) in Chicago.
"I forgot why I became a lawyer in the first place and it wasn't just to fight for money and power," Jessica said in the summer finale. "It was to fight for something more."
Although Jessica is no longer a part of P.S.L., executive producer Aaron Korsh remains hopeful that Torres will return even as a guest star. "I don't think it is the last we'll see of Jessica," he told TV Line. "If it were up to me, I would never say goodbye to Jessica until the end of the show."
Patrick J. Adams, who plays the role of Mike, posted a meaningful message via Instagram after Torres' exit. "Working with Ms. Gina Torres was one of the highlights of my career thus far," he wrote. "She is the epitome. The top. The boss. Always. We're gonna miss her around these parts. Can't wait to see what she does next. No doubt it will be electrifying. #farewelljessica"
Also expressing his love for the actress is Rick Hoffman, who plays Louis Litt in the series. "This pretty much says it all about my relationship with Gina Torres. Gina and me in our last scene in @suits_usa ep 610. Love you Gina!!" he said, captioning a photo of him and Torres on set.
After the midseason finale wrapped up, Torres spoke to Entertainment Weekly where she said she was "happy" to know that her co-stars "weren't happy" about her departure. "I think just everyone wondered, 'Well, how is this going to work? How are we going to do this? What's this show going to look like without Jessica?'" she mentioned." We're all wondering. I'm wondering. I'm very curious myself."
Production is currently underway for the episode which marks Adams' directorial debut in the series. According to star Meghan Markle's Instagram post, the last remaining episodes of "Suits' season 6 are set to air January 2017.
