'Suits' season 6 episode 12 spoilers: Harvey's estranged mother to be introduced; EP teases upcoming 'Donna-specific storyline'

Harvey (Gabriel Macht) reunites with his estranged mother on the upcoming episode of "Suits" season 6.

Wednesday's winter premiere opened with a surprising scene that shows Harvey and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) waking up together. When Donna started berating Harvey about Jessica's (Gina Torres) departure, it became clear that he was just dreaming. Elsewhere in the episode, Mike (Patrick J. Adams) continued to decline the offer to be a consultant in the firm. Anita (Leslie Hope) caught up with Mike, while Donna confronted Harvey about his resentment towards his mother.

Episode 12 picks up with Harvey's long-awaited reunion with his mother. "One Life to Live" actress Brynn Thayer has been tapped to guest star as Lily Specter, who left her own family after Harvey learned she was cheating when he was still a teenager.

Showrunner Aaron Korsh spoke with TV Guide, and he revealed that Harvey's story arc exploring his past quickly unfolds in the next episode. As expected, Donna will play a big part in convincing him that he must learn to face his demons. "He knows he's off-kilter from Jessica having left and Mike saying no. Donna points it out to him... It brings up a lot of stuff and he doesn't want to do it, and that's what [Episode 12] is about," Korsh explained.

As for the other half of fan-favorite "Darvey," Korsh teased that the writers are working on a "Donna-specific storyline." Many viewers have been asking for a storyline that delves deeper into Donna's character, and Korsh shared that the upcoming episodes of this season will explore a different side of the feisty executive assistant.

"Donna has a lot going on in the back six, and I will say it's not all in the first couple episodes," he told TV Line. "It develops a little bit over time, and it's probably more in the last four episodes than in the first two â€” though, definitely, she's got stuff in the first two," he went on to say.

The sixth season of "Suits" airs every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. ET on USA network.
