'Stranger Things' season 2 spoilers news: Creators talk 'darker,' 'bigger' season 2; series awaiting renewal at Netflix

"Stranger Things" has yet to be given the green light for a second season at Netflix, but its creators already know what a potential season 2 will look like.
The supernatural sci-fi horror series, which debuted on Netflix on July 15, stars Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, a small town single mother whose son, 12-year-old Will, has mysteriously disappeared. While it has only been on Netflix for a couple of weeks, the show already has fans clamoring for a "Stranger Things" season 2.
In an interview with Variety, "Stranger Things" creator Matt Duffer spoke about a potential season 2, saying, "We want it to feel like a big movie."
While the first season does cap most of the questions it raised, the "Stranger Things" boss said that there's more to the story and that season 2 would tackle the bigger picture.
"But there's a bigger mythology, and there's a lot of dangling threads at the end," he said. "We could explore it if Netflix wanted to continue."
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Matt and his co-creator/brother Ross Duffer said that a potential season 2 would serve as a sequel to the first season. According to Matt, the new season would feature a new main tension which the season will try to resolve.
But while a potential season 2 would have a different structure, he also said: "We want to retain the tone... It's not about just taking another monster and it's a bigger, badder monster. We want it to feel a little bit different, maybe a little bit darker, but still have the sense of fun that we had."
At the Television Critics Association's press tour on Wednesday, July 27, Netflix chief Ted Sarandos acknowledged the possible renewal of "Stranger Things," saying, "We always want to take some time to be thoughtful on the process."
"Stranger Things" is currently streaming on Netflix.
