'Stranger Things' season 2 news, updates: New cast members revealed; Noah Schnapp speaks on Will's rumored sexual orientation

The second season of Netflix's summer hit "Stranger Things" is starting to take shape.
According to reports, the sci-fi drama from Matt and Ross Duffer has recently tapped Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery as series regulars for the upcoming season two. Additionally, season 1 cast members Joe Kerry (who plays Steve Harrington) and Noah Schnapp (who plays Will Byers) have been promoted from recurring characters to series regulars.
Sink is slated to portray Max, a brave and strong-willed girl whose physical appearance and behavior seem more similar to boys in her era. Aside from having a complex backstory, she is also described to be generally suspicious of people around her.
Montgomery will play the character named Billy, Max's older step-brother who's over-confident and edgy. Described as someone who steals girls from their boyfriends, Billy is a typical jock who likes socializing and drives a black Camaro. However, lurking under his charisma is an unpredictable and violent behavior. Although details about the 1980s-set mystery thriller is still under wraps, it was previously revealed that Sink and Montgomery are only two of the three new faces on board for season 2.
Meanwhile, Schnapp's character Will has been the subject of persistent rumors after some fans pointed out that the fictional character might be gay. In an Instagram post, the child actor wrote a lengthy response to the ongoing dialogue about Will's sexual orientation. The 12-year-old shared some things he learned after an author visited their school, saying "good stories aren't supposed to leave you with answers because then you never question yourself and you forget about it."
"Does being sensitive, or a loner, or a teenager who likes photography, or a girl with red hair and big glasses, make you gay?" part of his statement reads. "I'm only 12 but I do know we all relate to being different. And that's why I think the Duffers wrote the show the way they did. So you can ask all these questions. I hope the real answer never comes out!"
Netflix has yet to announce a definitive premiere date for "Stranger Things" season 2, but the series is expected to return on July 2017.
