'Steven Universe' season 3 release date, spoilers rumors: Premiere set for June 2, month-long special to begin on May 12
Following months of waiting, Cartoon Network's hit animated series "Steven Universe" is slated to return to the small screen this coming June, and fans are in for a treat as a month-long special will be aired as well.
Prior to the June 2 premiere initially confirmed for the show, the third season kicks off with a month-long special which will air starting May 12, Thursday. This recent development favors the fans since the premiere date is actually earlier than expected.
In the first promo clip for the third season, the clip begins with Peridot who appears to be determined, as if the Crystal Gems are already on their way. At some point, Steven says "Something doesn't feel right about this," which leads fans to speculate that something wrong will happen in their mission. A mysterious creature also appeared in the last scene, surprising Steven before the clip came to nan end. This fuelled speculations that the creature might be a new villain who will be introduced in this upcoming season.
The latest sneak peek video seems to be parallel to the previously released "In Too Deep" teaser where Malachite rose from her prison under the ocean and manages to free herself. Pearl, Garnet and Amethyst merge their powers in order to defeat Malachite, warning her that she is already "outnumbered."
Early last month, "Steven Universe" creator Rebecca Sugar confirmed in a podcast that one episode will be fully musical, stating, "We have a full musical episode coming up — it has seven songs in eleven minutes!" She even hinted that one of the characters will do a tap dance which fans should look forward to. "[Shelby Rabara/Peridot] helped us with tap dancing in the musical episode. There's a scene with tap dancing, and when you hear it it's actually Shelby dancing!" she said.
The month-long special of "Steven Universe" premieres on May 12, and it will begin with two back-to-back episodes titled "Super Watermelon Island" and "Gem Drill" respectively. Meanwhile, the third season officially begins on June 2.
