'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Darth Maul's comeback, Maul vs. Vader not on the horizon
"Star Wars Rebels" season 2 ended with an action-packed finale, and fans are left wanting more. Luckily, the series will return sometime this year for a third season, and fans will see more of the Ghost Crew as they continue their adventures. Aside from new plot elements, viewers can also expect Darth Maul's return which will largely influence the upcoming season's story arc.

In "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace," Darth Maul made his last appearance after he was killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi, pushing him into a dark and endless pit. However, Darth Maul seems unstoppable as he will come back stronger in the next season of "Rebels."
Executive producer and co-creator Dave Filoni caught up with IGN where he discussed the show and gave details about season 3. Following Darth Maul's death, some fans were dismayed that he didn't get to fight with Vader because the former got away. Will they be able to battle it out next season? Filoni seems unsure, with all the other plot elements needed to be tackled like Maul's backstory. "We'll have to see. You never know, you never know. The nerd-tacular obsession with Vader vs. Maul. It's hard to say – I mean, Vader is hard to top. Something George is pretty adamant of all the time was that Vader, you know... You never want to do anything to diminish him," he explained.
Meanwhile, the next season will also delve deeper into the fate of Ahsoka Tano. After she battled it out with Vader, her former master, Ahsoka's future remains uncertain. "I've already been devising certain specifics around the future of that character, where she is, what's happening, if she dies, how would she survive if she did?" Filoni told io9, careful to give out any details. "All of those questions. I think they eventually need to be answered—but I wouldn't look to that, frankly, anytime soon."
