The finale episode of Disney XD's "Star Wars Rebels" Season 2 had a lot of fans on the edge of their seats with intense, action-packed sequences and a shocking cliffhanger which would say a lot about the next chapter of the popular animated series. Although Disney and Lucas Film would rather not give further details about the finale's cliffhanger, there is no stopping the fans to speculate and look for rumors on the internet.

The creators of "Star Wars Rebels" have not announced an exact date for the premiere of Season 3. However, as stated in the official website of "Star Wars," the next chapter is currently under production and the viewers can expect the third season to air sometime in mid to late 2016.

Breathecast reported that the upcoming season of "Star Wars Rebels" will be more thrilling and intense as before. It is said to be filled with more adventures and high hopes that the long-time battle between the Forces of Light and the Dark Side will come to an end with the goodness in all galaxies prevailing. The fans can expect a thicker plotline for Season 3 compared with the other chapters that preceded it. The series will also feature elements from the original "Star Wars" film franchise that the viewers can easily be familiar with.

In the same report, the senior vice president for development of Lucas Film, Kiri Hart, has talked about the things to expect in the third season.

"The show continues to tell fun, heartfelt, exciting new 'Star Wars' stories week after week and it's beloved by fans of all ages. Season 3 will see our rebel heroes face new obstacles and find new allies in their fight against the Empire."

Meanwhile, the emerging new villain in "Star Wars Rebels" may actually be the infamous Sith Lord himself, Darth Maul. According to Vine Report, Darth Maul's menacing appearance towards the end of Season 2 may just be a glimpse of the evil he will unleash in Season 3. As he successfully escaped the clutches of death in "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace," Darth Maul has also defended himself from the Empire. His fondness with the Force-sensitive Ezra as a potential apprentice might also be explored deeper in Season 3.
