'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 air date, spoilers news: Rebel vs Thrawn promo revealed; Katee Sackhoff to reprise her 'Clone Wars' role

Disney XD's hit animated series "Star Wars Rebels" returns to the small screen in just a few days, and a new promo hinting an impending war has been recently released.

In the 30-second promo clip, viewers can see the Rebels' overarching conflict with fan-favorite villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. It also appears that the main theme of this season is the Rebellion's continuing growth. Determined to bring down the enemies, Hera suggests stealing a squadron of fighter ships including the well-known Y-wings to help the Alliance form a strong strike force.However, acquiring them won't be an easy task and the Rebels must face several foes first. Aside from Thrawn, stormtroopers and destroyer droids will also fight against the Rebels. A seemingly possessed Darth Maul can be seen at some point in the teaser, along with Kanan who also had glowing green eyes.

Meanwhile, Katee Sackhoff's character in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will be joining the cast for season 3. The "Battlestar Galactica" actress voices the character of Bo-Katan Kryze, the trusted Death Watch lieutenant of Pre Vizsla and the sister of Mandalorian Duchess Satine Kryze. Since Sabine and the Mandalorians will have a major story arc this season, Bo-Katan's arrival is something fans should look forward to. Sackhoff personally confirmed the news during the recently-concluded Oz Comic-Con held in Sydney, Australia, adding that she already completed voice work for the series.

The talented lineup of voice actors for season 3 include returnees Freddie Prinze Jr. as Kanan, Vanessa Marshall as Hera, Steve Blum as Zeb, Tiya Sircar as Sabine, Taylor Gray as Ezra, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex, Captain Gregor, and Commander Wolffe, Sam Witwer as Darth Maul, and David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus. Additionally, the newcomers for the next installment are "Doctor Who" star Tom Baker as Bendu and "House of Cards" star Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
