In a recent interview with Variety, Boyega, who reprises his role as Finn in the movie, said that "Episode VIII" director Rian Johnson has "a different take" for the sequel. He also renounced the idea of a potential romance between his character Finn and Daisy Ridley's character Rey, saying that the two did not establish a romantic relationship in "Star Wars VII" and that they are only friends.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm Story Group executive Pablo Hidalgo revealed on his Twitter account that Johnson contributed to the latest "Star Wars" novel, Claudia Grey's "Star Wars: Bloodline," whose setting took place six years before "Star Wars: Episode VIII." This generated speculations that the novel which was just released on May 3 may contain spoilers for "Episode VIII."

On the other hand, the creative executive strongly debunked the rumor that Supreme Leader Snoke is Darth Plagueis in "Star Wars: Episode VIII," after fans speculated that the characters are the same persona.

By far, what is known for certain are the main characters comprising the "Star Wars: Episode VIII" ensemble. Felicity Jones is playing Jyn Erso, a gifted soldier and warrior. Diego Luna is Captain Cassian Andor, an officer in the Rebel Alliance. Jiang Wen plays Baze, a freelance assassin. Alan Tudyk plays the CGI character K-250, an Imperial model Enforcer Droid who teams up with the rebels. Riz Ahmed plays Bodhi, a rebel soldier. Pao is an alien who is described as a fierce warrior. Donnie Yen plays Chirrut, a spiritual warrior. Ben Mendelssohn plays the main antagonist Director Krennic who is a member of the Imperial Army.

While information about the movie and its storyline is very limited since there are still several months to count before it comes out, these bits of reports are enough to keep eager fans on the edge of their seats and anticipate having their expectations surpassed when the actual movie is released.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will open in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
