"Who are you?"

These were the first words that will be uttered by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to Rey (Daisy Ridley) when they first meet in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." These have led some fans to doubt initial theories that the latter is a daughter of the former or one of the Padawans he was training, who somehow managed to escape when Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the Knights of Ren decimated them. However, these theories refuse to die down, especially since Disney CEO Bob Iger was quoted in describing the upcoming film during its advance screening that it was a "great next chapter in the iconic Skywalker family saga."

In "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Rey was shown to be a scavenger who was separated from her family, but nonetheless, she wants to be reunited with them, hence her hesitation to leave the Planet Jakku where she was left behind. However, no information other than this was revealed about her background.

According to the show's producers, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will provide more background not just for Rey, but also for Kylo Ren and even for Finn (John Boyega). Incidentally, the former Stormtrooper is rumored to go on an infiltration mission to discover a traitor within the Resistance. He is also said to get a new love interest in Kelly Marie Tran's character, although no information has been revealed as of yet about her.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" will see Rey being trained by Luke on how to use the Force and what it means to be a Jedi. Film leaks also indicate that she will receive a vision of the future, much like what happened with her new master when he was training with Yoda. The scenario is said to show a confrontation between Rey, Kylo Ren, and Luke.

Another rumor revolving around Rey is that she will be losing a hand in the next film. This rumor gathered ground when Ridley was spotted wearing a green glove in some of her scenes. This was taken by fans as support to their claim that she is a Skywalker as both Luke and Anakin (Hayden Christensen) lost their hands as well.

Being a series with one of the largest fandoms, it comes as no surprise that various rumors and leaks about "The Last Jedi" are circulating on the Internet to tide fans over until the film comes out. More are set to come out as the film's release date, which is set on Dec. 17, approaches.
