Since the return of the "Star Wars" saga in theaters late last year with "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens," many fans have been speculating who the real parents of Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) are. Rey is seen by many as a major character in the new series of "Star Wars" films who will move the story forward. Learning about her roots is one of the main keys to unlocking the mysteries in the new "Star Wars," just like how Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) had learned about his real family in Episodes IV to VI. As for Rey, many are speculating that the viewers have already seen her real father in "The Force Awakens." However, director J.J. Abrams dismissed the rumor and revealed that Rey's parents were not featured in Episode VII.

Abrams shared a few hints about the future of "Stars Wars" during the question and answer session at the Tribeca Film Festival, Trusted Reviews reported. In the event, the "Star Wars" director dismissed the long-existing speculation about Rey's parentage. Those who have watched "The Force Awakens" found a very deep connection between Luke and Rey, especially towards the end of the movie when Rey went to Luke's hideout on a faraway planet and handed back his lightsaber. This was seen by many as the start of a touching father and daughter moment that would continue in the upcoming Episode VIII. Apart from Episode VII's ending scene, the moment when Rey was called by the lightsaber once used by Luke and Anakin/Darth Vader may also suggest that Rey is related with the Skywalkers.

"Rey's parents are not in Episode VII. So I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too," Abrams said in front of the press at the film festival. This statement would mean that Rey's parents have not yet been introduced in the film series. Those who had suspected Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford) as Rey's father are wrong, as well.

The upcoming Episode VIII with an unknown title will probably unravel the mystery behind Rey's identity. This may show how her parents leaving her in the deserted junkyard Planet Jakku, thus living her life as a scavenger until she met Finn (played by John Boyega) and Han Solo. Since Rey was seen being strong with the Force, the fans expect that she came from a family of Jedi warriors, also given her superb fighting skills.
