'Star Wars Battlefront 2' release date: Sequel coming next year in time for 'Star Wars Episode 8'?
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" will be released around fall next year. This is according to Electronic Arts (EA) chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen who revealed the information in a recent earnings call.
He said, as quoted by GamesRadar, that the sequel to the hit 2015 action shooter, which is still set to receive more downloadable content (DLC), will arrive "a year from now."
"We're working very hard on making sure that it's an extremely deep and engaging offering," Jorgensen added as he announced EA's plan for "Star Wars Battlefront 2."
This release schedule makes it a perfect companion for the highly-anticipated film, "Star Wars Episode 8," which will be released December next year.
Early this year, Jorgensen said that they will pull "from the new movies" in putting together "Star Wars Battlefront 2," which means that the beloved new characters and their stories will likely figure into the games.
The current "Star Wars Battlefront" game is set to receive a DLC inspired from "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the upcoming spinoff film set for release next year.
The DLC will be called "Rogue One: Scarif" and will allow players to take on role of the film's protagonist Jyn Erso and antagonist imperial Director Krennic.
The "Star Wars Battlefront" DLC will be set in the titular location, Scarif, which is a beach planet. There should also be new weapons, a new game mode, new Star Cards based on the movie.
Meanwhile, Jorgensen also spoke about the upcoming "Star Wars" game being made by Visceral Games headed by Amy Hennig and Jade Raymond.
"We've talked about an action title that's not yet announced, but we're very excited and that's a good chance that that will fall into fiscal 2018," Jorgensen said via PCGamer.
"I'm not yet giving guidance for 2018, so I want to be careful that we don't get overboard. But we're confident that we should be able to comp a strong year this year," he added.
