"Sons of Anarchy" saw a mother vs. son showdown when its penultimate episode was shown on Tuesday at 9/10 c on FX.

The seventh season of the series has one more episode left, which is expected to provide closure to many characters on the show

Last Tuesday's episode titled "Red Rose" was described as "devastating" by many reviewers. It started with Jax (Charlie Hunnam) getting ready to make peace with rival gangs. He told the club presidents that he lied when he said that Jury (Michael Shamus Wiles) confessed to being the rat in the group. He also stated that he was not sure if Jury was reaching for his gun when he killed him. This confession by Jax, Entertainment Weekly points out, would lead to his death as the presidents of the other clubs are unlikely to forgive him.

Meanwhile, as Gemma (Katey Sagal) visited her father in the nursing home, the news of her arrival was relayed to Jax. After Nero (Jimmy Smits) learned that Jax knew where Gemma was, he met with Unser (Dayton Callie) and asked him to get Gemma before Jax could confront her.

The first major death of the episode happened in jail when Juice (Theo Rossi) asked Tully (Marilyn Manson) to stab him. Following this, the action shifted to the house of Gemma's father. Unser managed to arrive first and informed her that he needed to get her to prevent Jax from killing her. However, before Unser could make the call to the local police Jax arrived.

Jax then shockingly killed Unser by shooting him in the chest. He then sat down to talk to Gemma. After the talk, Gemma understood that Jax would never forgive her for killing his wife Tara (Maggie Siff), which caused all his problems. She then went into the garden where Jax killed her after initially hesitating to do so.

With Gemma's death it becomes increasingly clear that the last episode of the series will see Jax dying. While there is a possibility that he could decide to live on the farm with his sons, Wendy (Drea de Matteo) and Nero, most reviewers agree the probability of that happening is pretty slim.
