Song Joong Ki & Song Hye Kyo news: 'Descendants of the Sun' season 2 happening after pair's KBS Awards win?
The unsurprising win of onscreen lovers Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo at the KBS Drama Awards for "Descendants of the Sun" has many hoping season 2 might finally happen.
The romance drama was a massive success and was big internationally. The pair's chemistry was off the charts, which made the series more endearing to viewers.
This led the KBS Drama Awards to endow the "Descendants of the Sun" stars the highly coveted Grand Prize as well as a Best Couple award.
The victory has many once again hoping for "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 to happen. After all, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have already said that they have enjoyed making the first one.
Fans speculate that "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 will give fans a look at the married life of Yoo Shi-jin (Song Joong Ki) and Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye Kyo) and the challenges they face.
However, at the moment, nothing is confirmed yet about the new season. Rumors about the renewal have been around for a while, but no concrete details have been provided.
In accepting the award, Song Joong Ki was emotional and lost for words. He did not forget to thank everyone who made is possible and of course, his co-star Song Hye Kyo.
"I received the script while I was still in the army. I give my thanks to those who trusted me fresh out of the army. I started with nothing. Thank you for bringing me here," the actor said on stage.
He added that he "cried a lot" whenever he got stressed during the production of "Descendants of the Sun," earning himself the nickname "Crybaby."
"I give all credit and honour for this award to my partner, Hye Kyo, who is a great senior and the most beautiful and lovely partner. Thank you, Hye Kyo," he went on to say.
Song Hye Kyo said that despite the sweeping success of "Descendants of the Sun," she was still embarrassed because she "lacked acting skills."
"When I was approached for the role, it concerned me if it was right to take on this work. I thank the people who have trusted me with the role. I was happy during the time we filmed this," the actress said.
"Most of all, I believe I am able to receive this award thanks to having met the best partner I could hope for, Mr. Song Joong Ki. I thank him once again," she added.
