Fox's supernatural drama series "Sleepy Hollow" shocked fans during its season 3 finale when female lead character Lt. Grace Abigail "Abbie" Mills (Nicole Beharie) was killed off, and a majority of viewers may be wondering how the show will continue without Capt. Ichabod Crane's (Tom Mison) female counterpart.

In a roundtable interview at this past weekend's London MCM Comic Con, Mison publicly spoke about his co-actress' departure for the first time. "Abbie Mills represented more than just another character in the show," Mison told The Realistic Optimist."It wasn't an easy decision for them to make. I know that. The writers, they like writing Abbie Mills. And I like acting with Nicole."

As expected, fans are fuming over Beharie's sudden exit from the series, and some even associated it to her race. Rumor has it that Abbie, who is a black female character, was axed to put more focus on Ichabod, a white male character. Mison also gave his take on this issue, saying, "When you have a woman of color in the lead role, it's not just a woman of color in the lead role. It immediately means so much more than that, across the whole of America. There's a woman of color in a position that not very long ago she wouldn't have been. It comes to symbolize so much more. So when something like this happens, when they kill off said character, of course it's going to mean an awful lot more, consequently." In terms of his relationship with Beharie, the actor clarified that he remains friends with the actress despite not working with her anymore.

Back in April, showrunner, Clifton Campbell mentioned that even though Abbie is gone, there will be references to her character every now and then. He also said that the "idea of her" will be around in future episodes "but not as the character Abbie Mills." It remains to be seen how they plan to remember her but the show will definitely move forward since her death will "activate another Witness."

The network has yet to announce a premiere date for "Sleepy Hollow" season 4. More details are expected to be released soon.
